Originally designed for the 80 Series Toyota Land Cruiser, these solid bronze knuckle bushings were updated to a needle bearing for the 100 Series. Some avid off-roaders retrofit the solid bushings into their 100 Series in an effort to decrease failure points.
While the needle bearing offers alleged increases in fuel efficiency (by reducing drag), some argue that one less moving part helps on the trail. Needle bearing failure can destroy a CV axle if not addressed.
